Te Māreikura Whakataka-Brightwell and Monika Fraider, both proud descendants of Rongowhakaata, were raised in what is affectionately known as the heart of the universe, Tūranganui-a-Kiwa. As integral members of the Rongowhakaata Iwi Trust Communications Team, this dynamic pair has pioneered the podcast 'Get at The Table', affectionately acronymed GATTit. Their mission? To spark dialogue around the distinctive leadership ethos of Rongowhakaata.

The GATTit Podcast is more than just a series; it's a beacon for transformative leadership engagement, aiming to elevate our community's presence and sway through the compelling world of podcasts. By prioritising meaningful conversations, this initiative seeks to light the path for emerging leaders, enriching our collective journey with wisdom, vitality, and influence.

Episode 1: Tama Waipara ‘Melodies of Change’

From his early days, soaking up lessons in both music, whakapapa and education from his parents, to lighting up stages and classrooms from New York's prestigious Manhattan School of Music to back home in Aotearoa, Tama's journey is nothing short of inspirational.

But it's not just about the music. He also founded the Tairāwhiti Arts festival and in 2023, his efforts earned him one of the highest honours in New Zealand, the Order of Merit. And now, as the deputy Chair of the Rongowhakaata Iwi Trust Board, he's hitting a new high note, sharing his invaluable experiences and leading with a style that's as poetic as his music.

Episode 2: Staci Hare – The ‘Unyielding Rock’

Get ready for Episode 2: "Staci Hare – The Unyielding Rock," where we spotlight Staci Hare, a towering figure whose roots in Manutūkē have blossomed into a formidable leadership presence. With a passion ignited by politics, environmental advocacy, and the rich tapestry of Rongowhakaata culture, her journey from a curious mind to a leadership powerhouse is nothing short of remarkable. Armed with a degree in Marine Biology and extensive experience in the governmental sphere, Staci brings an invaluable treasure trove of knowledge and insight to the table.

As the current Chair of the Rongowhakaata Iwi Trust, her trailblazing path began when she stepped into the role of representative for Manutūkē Marae on the Board in 2014, at the tender age of 24. A decade later, she remains the youngest member, a testament to her enduring influence and commitment to injecting new, innovative perspectives into the dialogue.

Describing herself as a strategic 'mole' within government realms, Staci has mastered the art of assimilating vital skills and knowledge, only to bring them back to enrich the collective wisdom of her community. She stands as a steadfast beacon, unshakable and resilient, amidst the ever-shifting currents of challenge and change. This episode dives deep into the essence of holding firm to your values and principles, regardless of the chaos around you. Episode 3: Moera Brown – ‘Economics of Identity’

In Episode 3, "Moera Brown – ‘Economics of Identity," we're honoured to share the journey of Moera Brown, a symbol of enduring leadership and wisdom within the Rongowhakaata Iwi Trust. Since 2011, Moera has been a cornerstone of the Trust, witnessing and steering the iwi through a series of significant milestones and challenges—from the aftermath of the Treaty of Waitangi settlement process to the collision period of Tuia 250 and the British High Commissioner’s expression of Regret to Rongowhakaata for Captain Cook’s atrocities in 1769, to the critical Covid-19 response and beyond. Her tenure is a testament to resilience, foresight, and unwavering dedication to her people.

Raised on a rural farm, Moera's unique experiences from police college to her extensive service on various boards have shaped her into a leader whose contributions can scarcely be quantified. She has navigated the complexities of iwi development, drawing on the profound strength of her identity to influence and guide her approach to leadership. Moera's perspective transforms her identity into an economic force, leveraging it to overcome obstacles and champion the progress of her iwi in her unique way that we can only describe as ‘Moeranomics’.
