Treaty Principles Bill Submission Process

The Rongowhakaata Iwi Trust opposes the Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi Bill and will be submitting a formal response to ensure our collective voice is heard. To empower whānau to participate in this important process, we have provided the following information to help you understand how to make your own submission. Karawhiua e te whānau!

What you need to know

·      Submissions can be done by individuals or as a whānau, group or organisation

·      Any personal details – address, phone number will be made public alongside your submission – so keep that info private if you don’t want to make it public

·      Only respectful language will be accepted – no swearing

·      You can opt to make an oral submission to present your views to the committee members, we would encourage this.

·      You must be 18 and over

·      You can either upload a document or fill in the space provided on the parliament website

Important dates

·      Submissions need to be made before Tuesday, 7 January 2025, 11:59pm

·      Hearings on submissions will conclude by the end of February 2025

Section 1: Submission on Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi Bill

·      What you think of the Bill

·      Why you oppose it

·      Why would it be bad for Aoteroa 

Section 2: I/We wish to make the following recommendations

·      What you think should happen to the Bill

·      List the things you think should happen instead

·      Give good reasons for your statements
