Waiohiharore Commemoration Garden
Listen to our Environmental specialist Soraya Pohatu and our Ngāi Tāwhiri whanaunga Lisa Taylor tell us stories about our history regarding Waiohiharore. Once a food basket where the Kanae flourished, this is evident in the ancestral name of the awa that flows alongside it, Waikanae – Wai (water) Kanae (mullet).
The area has degraded and suffered significantly over many decades, however, that is changing! and fast! thanks to the restoration and development efforts of Rongowhakaata Iwi Trust this special Whenua is where we, as Rongowhakaata, are sharing our Collision story.
See the first steps we took towards the redevelopment of this site for all of our community to share.
