Te Puawaitanga Placement (Rongowhakaata Trainee) 11 Dec

Individual’s interested in applying for the placement should send a letter of interest along with a curriculum vitae to Carolyn Roberts-Thompson (Manager Iwi Relationships, Te Papa, P.O Box 467, Wellington 6011) by 5pm on Wednesday 21 December.

It is anticipated that interviews for shortlisted applicants will take place prior to Christmas or at an agreed date early in the New Year.

The Te Puāwaitanga Placement aims to:

  • Provide a learning opportunity for an iwi trainee, whose iwi have participated or are currently participating in the Iwi Exhibition Programme at Te Papa.
  • Support the development of an iwi trainee to gain skills and experience and build iwi capacity and capability across the museum sector.
  • Contribute to Te Papa’s Settlement obligations by supporting the growth of the museum’s enduring relationships with iwi.
  • Allow for the iwi trainee to be seconded for short periods of time to cultural heritage agencies such as Ngā Taonga Sound and Vision, Heritage New Zealand, Archives New Zealand, The National Library, Creative New Zealand and/or a local/regional museum where appropriate.
  • Develop an exciting opportunity and work programme in negotiation with the iwi trainee and appropriate iwi mentor.
  • Enable the iwi trainee to work within the Ngā Manu Atarau Directorate (Iwi Relationships, National Services Te Paerangi and/or Repatriation), and/or Collections, Exhibitions and installation, Learning Innovation, Photography, the Innovation Hub and/or Digital teams.
  • Provide Te Papa with an opportunity to give back to Iwi Exhibition partners by acknowledging their commitment and support to the museum throughout their residency.
  • Enhance and deepen the relationship between Te Papa and the Iwi Exhibition partner in a meaningful way.

Key documents to be completed with the iwi trainee, mentor and Te Papa representative include:

  • The work programme;
  • The partnership agreement between Te Papa and the iwi;
  • The iwi partnership programme placement agreement, accompanied by a Letter of Expectation.

It is intended that the work programme for this placement will focus on and support the development of the Ko Rongowhakaata exhibition. The placement would commence as soon as possible and conclude at the opening of the exhibition in September 2017.

Individual’s interested in applying for the placement should send a letter of interest along with a curriculum vitae to Carolyn Roberts-Thompson (Manager Iwi Relationships, Te Papa, P.O Box 467, Wellington 6011) by  5pm on Wednesday 21 December.
