Cook and the Doctrine of Christian Discovery – European explorers such as James Cook relied on the Vatican’s ‘Doctrine of Christian Discovery’ to guide them in foreign lands. Tupaia – Tupaia was a navigator from Ra’iatea and joined the crew of the Endeavour at the request of Joseph Banks in 1769. He subsequetly sailed with the crew to Aotearoa showing them the way. The following film depicts Tupaia’s journey during the 4 days in Tūranganui-a-Kiwa.
