Rongowhakaata Iwi Assets Tour

On Sunday, May 7, 2023, in commemoration of the Treaty of Waitangi signed by Tūranga rangatira at Taurangakoau in Manutuke, Rongowhakaata uri embarked on a bus tour exploring our Iwi owned assets. The journey began at Taurangakoau, the historic treaty signing grounds (now the modern Manutuke Post Office). This tour provided whānau with the opportunity to explore these significant sites, reconnect with the whenua, and pose questions. Throughout the tour, we shared traditional narratives associated with these locations.

Since the passage of over 180 years since the signing of the Treaty, our Iwi's collective assets have diminished. Nevertheless, our resilience endures.

With a lens of where we have been and we were are today, we started to discuss a 100-year plan and strategically think about the careful growth of our assets to build a Rongowhakaata economy.
