Rautaki reo

Rongowhakaata aspires for a thriving reo, one that is lived, and whose values and qualities seep into every aspect of life. Our reo compels the need for spaces where the different voices of the iwi can be heard, helping the collective iwi voice to be clearer, aligned and accurately represented. Our Reo Strategy aims to reverse the effects of colonisation by re-affirming Rongowhakaata identity through the culture and practices of language revitalisation.

The Rautaki Reo o Rongowhakaata is made up of three stages:

  • Stage 1: Te Reo o Rongowhakaata is encountered. The action of Orienting.

  • Stage 2: Te Reo o Rongowhakaata is cultured. The action of Learning.

  • Stage 3: Te Reo o Rongowhakaata is celebrated. The action of Sharing Learning.

The goal for Rongowhakaata is to grow our percentage of Rongowhakaata uri speaking te reo maori to 55% by 2033.

Kura Pō

Kura Pō is our reo programme that offers three levels of learning. Tauira have expressed their appreciation for the safe learning environment that the kaiako provide. They also value the additional supplementary sessions held at the beginning of each class that provide kōrero on our context, utilising already developed resources that the Rongowhakaata Iwi Trust hold.

The online delivery has enabled nga taura here ki Aotearoa and nga taura here ki tāwahi to connect back with Iwi and whanau from locations across the world. Kura Pō 2024 is currently under development. The opportunities to register will be communicated via the Rongowhakaata Iwi Trust Facebook page.

Wānanga

Our iterations of wānanga take many forms the purpose for us seeks to grow the whānau, hapu, iwi relationship and value for Te Reo by strengthening connection to our places and our arts through our stories.

Bespoke reo events, activities and conversations are co-designed by the Rongowhakaatatanga Pou within the Rongowhakaata Iwi Trust, with active representatives of our target audience and Kaumatua support.

Te Kura ō Manutuke – He Kura ā Iwi

The Rongowhakaata Iwi Trust recognises that Te Kura o Manutuke makes the biggest investment into growing Te Reo capability amongst our rangatahi. Consideration for the Trusts commitment to the Kura ā Iwi kaupapa includes supporting investment in Te Reo, in rangatahi through localized curriculum content development, access to iwi narratives and mātauranga resources, invitation to iwi events and understanding strategy alignment areas.

Whānau / Marae and Hapū based Reo Initiatives
