Pahou Marae Trustees

Lewis MoeauLewis Moeau

Grandparents: Puka Moeau/Pani Taihuka-Edwards, Wiremu Wilson/Atareta Paihau
Occupation: Senior Advisor
For all of my life I have been committed to, and interested in Rongowhakaata’s affairs. Culturally through local waiata, kapa haka performing and judging. Sporting with all codes of YMP and as secretary of YMP Rugby for 20 years. Economically as chair of Arai Matawai for 20 years and Awapuni Trust for 10 years. I have been involved with all of our Marae including being a trustee for Pahou Marae for 50 years and with Te Hau ki Tūranga since the 1990s.

I currently advise the Prime Minister and Governor General on tikanga and Te Reo matters. While I live and work in Wellington, my home is Manutuke. My primary aspirations as Chair of the Rongowhakaata Iwi Trust are:

  1. To ensure full and frank participation by my fellow Trustees, with the many skills and talents that they possess, in all the business of the Trust,
  2. To establish appropriate strategic and management plans in preparation for receiving those assets of the former Rongowhakaata Charitable Trust and for receiving and investing our settlement fund from the Crown later this year.
  3. To continue, and eventually increase, the participation of the Trust in all matters cultural, civic, communal, economic and social on behalf of Rongowhakaata, and where required with all our Tairāwhiti kin tribes.
  4. To keep Rongowhaata Iwi fully informed of the Trust’s operations, through the various media resources that we operate, at all times.

My career has shown my ability to learn new skills quickly, foster working relationships, identify needs and apply solutions where necessary. I have over ten years’ experience in the field of administrative roles having primarily worked in the tertiary education sector.
