The Ministry for Primary Industries will be holding a hui in Gisborne on Friday the 16th of December, the purpose of the hui is to ensure that hapu and iwi customary, commercial and corporate representatives have an opportunity to participate in a presentation and consultation hui with the Ministry on the proposals contained in the Ministry’s Future of our Fisheries document.
The hui has two objectives:
Consultation on the Ministry’s proposals to introduce an Integrated electronic monitoring and reporting system to enable better and more accurate reporting of catches by commercial fishers and changes to the law to allow new and more sustainable types of trawling technology to be used.
The second objectives is to commence an initial discussion on a number of strategic proposals aimed at improving the management of fisheries. There will be further opportunities in the new year to discuss the development of those strategic proposals which may be identified as being options for further development.
Venue; The White House 69 Peel Street Gisborne with a tentative start time of 10am.
It is important that Tangata Whenua are informed of the proposals and have their voice and input into discussions on the Future of our Fisheries.
